CAP-HAITIEN—City Hall officials have postponed the demolition of several homes built on a hilltop village in the path of a canal, citing concerns about political unrest as anti-government protests occurred in Haiti’s second largest city.

“We’re very careful because of the political movement,” Deputy Mayor Patrick Almonor said to The Haïtian Times in a WhatsApp message. “If the vehicles are in the streets, they might burn them because of political actions.”
