Best Western Premier Hotel, located in Pétion-Ville, will close its doors definitively on Oct. 31, 2019. Karan Kampani, General Director, confirmed this first branch of the American chain “Best Western International,” which opened its doors in April 2013 in Haiti, will now have to close its doors. After six years of operations, the closure of the well-known establishment is due to political unrest and instability that has paralyzed the country for almost two months.
This announcement coincides with the news that well-known family-owned local hotel Karibe, has been forced to move some of its employees to part-time status. The last couple of months of political unrest and protest are showing its effects in the country’s suffering economy. As a result, several businesses, especially those in the tourist sector have had to temporarily close their doors or downsize.
