Pierre Toussaint helped built the first Catholic school for black children in New York? DYK

This week Did You Know delves in the life and contributions of Pierre Toussaint, a formerly enslaved Haitian-American hairdresser and philanthropist who played a significant role in New York City’s history. Born on June 27, 1766, Toussaint’s remarkable journey includes his freedom in 1807 after the death of his mistress, which led him to adopt the surname “Toussaint” in honor of Toussaint Louverture, a Haitian Revolution leader.
