Former senator Kely Bastien announced that he has parted ways with Haiti’s Democratic party after controversies involving other members, he said in a statement released on Monday.

Bastien wrote that he was the target of “a systematic campaign of character assassination.” He claimed that he had received a mandate from the Democratic sector to meet with members of the “Tet Kale” (Bald Head in English) Party and other politicians. Democratic sector officials said that was false in a letter published on Juno7 on Tuesday.
