1492 - Italian explorer Christopher Columbus lands in Ayiti Kiskeya Boyo

Italian explorer Christopher Columbus lands in Ayiti Kiskeya Boyo, an island inhabited by Taíno and Arawak peoples. Columbus names the island La Española, or Little Spain. With him is Juan Moreno or Juan Prieto (John the Black), the first person of African descent known to have arrived in La Española.
