Voters in Queens District 31 will head to the polls today for a special election to replace former city Council Member Donovan Richards, who left the seat to become borough president last year.
District 40 council candidate Rita Joseph has raised $204,957 in public and private money, making her the leading overall fundraiser in the race to replace Council Member Mathieu Eugene. Meanwhile, in less than seven months, NYPD Lt. Edwin Raymond has raised $90,910 in private funding from individuals, for his own campaign.
This is a roundup of Haitian-American candidates on the ballot during the 2020 elections. These candidates have either won outright or advanced to runoffs in their respective races.
With more than 425,000 in Florida and 200,000 in New York, according to the Census Bureau and community organizations, Haitian-American civic engagement is in full display. In addition to voting, at least 17 candidates from Haitian-American communities are seeking to represent constituents at the municipal, state, and local levels.
