In Haiti’s remote villages, help is still grassroots, urgently needed

In Duchity, Haiti, a small town about 14 miles north of Les Cayes, survivors and neighbors have led the immediate response to the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that ravaged the south of Haiti. Its plight mirrors what many smaller communes in urgent need of attention are experiencing as they are bypassed by responders and convoys going directly to locations like Les Cayes. Meanwhile, residents say, the need for emergency supplies and relief in smaller places grows more acute each day that passes.
