Azul, a fusion restaurant and lounge in Petionville, Haiti, was transformed into a holiday shopping ground this past weekend, featuring several artists and their items. Organized by ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative and USAID “Circle of Fashion,” the holiday market which ran on Dec. 11 and Dec. 12, featured items created exclusively for the event by designers such as Pascale Theard, Paula Coles, Simbi, DOT, as well as Osklen E- Ayiti.

While Thanksgiving isn’t my absolute favorite holiday, that title belongs to Christmas, it is definitely up there. And for me it’s all about spending time with family and taking time to be extra thankful for everything I’m fortunate enough to have. When I officially moved to Haiti in 2011, I continued with my mother the American tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving, which in the states marks the historic meal between the newly-settled pilgrims and the Indians.

With the theme “Nourrir Haiti” (Feed Haiti), Haiti Fashion Week 2015 transformed Karibe Hotel this weekend into the place to be for Haitian designers and fashion lovers.

The fourth annual fashion event opened Thursday with a morning press conference followed by a pre-runway show introduction by guest-of-honor Stella Jean later that evening.

Chef Andres is hosting a one-hour special titled “Undiscovered Haiti with Jose Andres” that will air on PBS. The special is based on Andres’ numerous culinary trips to Haiti.

Election Results Postponed to Nov. 5

Preliminary presidential elections results are postponed until Nov.5, the Provisional Electoral Council, which goes by the French acronym CEP, announced late Tuesday night. The results were originally to be released on Nov.3, however due to findings from a special commission established to document voter complaints, the results were delayed.

Newmont Mining Corp. Purchases Canadian Mining Company’s Interests In Haiti

A subsidiary of mining giant Newmont Mining Corp. recently acquired a Canadian company’s joint-venture interests in Haiti, the company announced on Nov. 2.

Vancouver-based Eurasian Minerals Inc. said it sold its interests covering six exploration sites in northern Haiti to the Newmont subsidiary for about 4 million USD and a 0.5 percent royalty.
