Moving On In the Wake of Trump’s Election Victory

By Cameron Pierre-Pierre

Donald J. Trump will be the president of the United States of America. These are words I thought I would never have to say. These are words I never wanted to say. Unfortunately, at the moment, I don’t really have a choice.

The Tears Of A Young Cynic

By Cameron Pierre-Pierre

For those of you that don’t know me personally, I am currently 22 years old. Four years ago, when I was 18, I had my first opportunity to vote in a presidential election. I took that opportunity to vote for, and help reelect President Barack Obama. I was apathetic. My apathy didn’t stem from dislike towards the president. I personally think he is a good man who has done the best with what he has had to work with. My lack of enthusiasm stemmed from the fact that I had accepted that nothing would ever change and that my vote was basically irrelevant. I am a lot more cynical than most people my age.

The Political Circus

By Cameron Pierre-Pierre

When did the presidential election become a circus? This is a question that has been plaguing me since this process started a year ago. I have watched grown men make fun of the size of each other’s hands.

“Is This The Best We Got?”

By Cameron Pierre-Pierre

The joke of the Century just got a little less funny. Every expert said it wasn’t going to happen. “There is no way he can win,” all of the pundits declared. Well it turns out they were wrong, because Donald Trump has become the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party. For months, we heard of the potential of a contested G.O.P. convention. This seemed to be the last hope for many conservatives disgusted by what they saw Donald Trump doing to their party. Well the bubble has been burst and the contest is over. Trump proved us all wrong. This is truly terrifying.

RSVP for democracy

By Cameron Pierre-Pierre

As a New Yorker, in order to vote in the presidential primary, I am required to register as either a Democrat or a Republican. Why? Why should I have to sign up for a party? Neither one is particularly appealing to me.

Fearing For The Future

By Cameron Pierre-Pierre

Hello, my name is Cameron Pierre-Pierre. For the next several months, I will be writing about the United States presidential election. It has been a fascinating contest up to now, to say the least. I can’t remember any point in my life being more excited about an election. Maybe it is because I was too young before to really care. Maybe it is the fact that I have found a candidate who I feel really speaks for me. There are many maybe’s I could ponder, but I think there is one reason in particular for my enthusiasm. For the first time in my short life, I am afraid for the future.
