Kreyol Edition listening session seeks to end mental health stigma in Haitian Community

Feb. 14, 2019 - The event was spearheaded by program coordinator Ruth Jean-Marie who was inspired by a similar event called ‘Escúchame’ for the Latino community in the Bronx where the sessions were conducted in both English and Spanish. These events according to Jean-Marie are part of a larger initiative launched by First Lady Chirlane McCray that addresses mental health concerns by creating access to resources, specifically for the black community to thrive.

After Unlikely Victory, Haitian American Frontus Starts Work in Coney Island Seat

Feb. 12, 2019 - Among the latest crop of assembly members is Haitian American Mathylde Frontus, who was sworn in by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie on Nov. 15 -- before 18 other new assembly-elects -- because she was elected to fill a seat that was vacated by disgraced ex-assemblywoman Pamela Harris. Harris resigned from her seat last April after being indicted and eventually pleading guilty to a 11 charges including wire fraud.
