NEW YORK – One story Ouigi Theodore tells with his clothing is the one, too often untold, about Haitians creating and achieving remarkable things. Born in Port-au-Prince and raised in Brooklyn, Theodore started his own fashion brand that has since gone international, propelled by collaborations with giants like Macy’s and his latest and nearly sold-out Gap collection.
“My superpower is being both Haitian and American. I realized that early on, when a lot of my peers either didn’t yet, or didn’t want to embrace their mix,” Theodore says, fluctuating between English and Creole.
