NYC immigration clinics in March need Kreyòl-speaking volunteers.
Haitian Kreyòl interpreters — remote and in New York City — are needed to assist with Catholic Charities’ Haitian immigration clinics to serve unrepresented immigrants.
Catholic Charities will train the volunteers on how to complete forms associated with Temporary Protection Status (TPS) as part of the city’s Haitian Response Initiative.
“Volunteers don’t need to have prior legal experience as attorneys will review all forms directly with the applicants,” said Madjeen Garcon-Bonneau, president of the Haitian American Lawyers Association of New York (HALANY). “We’ll be responsible for submission to USCIS.”
HALANY has partnered with Catholic Charities to provide them with assistance to deliver legal services in the New York area.
Once trained, remote volunteers will schedule phone appointments with pre-screened applicants to draft the forms in preparation for the in-person clinic dates.
In-person volunteers will participate in the clinics at 80 Maiden Lane in Manhattan.
Clinics are scheduled for Feb. 23 and Mar. 4, 13, 16, 20, 28 and 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The clinic on Mar. 4 will run 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additional attorneys are needed for that clinic, said Garcon-Bonneau.
