This article is part of a series focusing on prominent Haitian-Americans that The Haitian Times has profiled in the past. Titled “What they did next”, the series features well-known members of the diaspora, including writers, entrepreneurs and community advocates.

Danielle Legros Georges recalls speaking to a class to review one of her poems, “Everyone Loves a Good Villain.” The students at Pine Minor College thought it was addressing the murder of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman’s trial, which was taking place at the time.

The students found interest in the poem because they had experiences not disconnected from it and wanted to further explore discussions of challenging societal issues.
