Haiti’s Senate on Friday proclaimed Joseph Lambert, the president of the legislative body, as Haiti’s provisional president via a resolution in a bid to replace assassinated leader Jovenel Moïse.

"I understood the Senators' resolution," Lambert posted on his Twitter account after the proclamation. "I express my humble gratitude to the political institutions that support me. I sincerely thank them. I hope to meet many others to reopen the path of alternation essential to democracy."
