René Sylvestre, the president of the Supreme Court, died of COVID-19 Wednesday, a source told Gazette Haiti.

He died at University of Mirebalais Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment since last week. 

Sylvestre, a Saint-Marc native, had been the president of Haiti’s highest court since February 2019. Haiti has been experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases since the beginning of May. Source
