President Jovenel Moïse called for unity during a speech commemorating the 218th anniversary of the Haitian flag at the National Palace Tuesday.

“The [Haitian flag] symbolizes the freedom of our country, symbolizes unity,” Moïse said. “To achieve this, our ancestors put aside their differences. We are still slaves of division despite the many years of our independence.”

On the same day, anti-government protesters took to the streets in various cities around Haiti. One person was shot three times after leaving one protest. Constant Pierre, a bodyguard to opposition leader Youri Latortue, was transported to the hospital for surgery. Source
