The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s soccer team added Haitian defender Ruthny Mathurin to their roster, the school announced Tuesday.
“Ruthny is going to be a tremendous addition to our program,” said Lance Key, head coach of the Ragin’ Cajuns. “We have been working with her for quite some time to make this happen and we are thrilled it is becoming a reality. She’s a wonderful person and as resilient as can be.”
Mathurin, a 20-year-old left back, has played for Haiti’s under-17, U-19, U-20 and senior teams during her four years with the Haitian Soccer Federation. A Port-au-Prince native, Mathurin also played for Association Sportive Tigresses, winning the Haitian National Championship with them in 2017.
