Sixty-eight members of the U.S. Congress have signed a letter stating that President Jovenel Moïse’s administration lacks the credibility to hold a constitutional referendum and elections.
Leading the group of Congressional representatives who signed the letter are Gregory Meeks and Hakeem Jeffries, whose districts encompass parts of Queens and Brooklyn. They sent the letter to Anthony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, on Monday.
The same day, the Core Group, a collection of diplomats worldwide, also released a public statement saying they are deeply concerned because Haiti isn’t in political agreement to hold elections under a favorable climate. They said the process of changing the constitution isn’t transparent nor inclusive enough. Source
The actual number of endorsers of the congressional letter was 69, not 68. Rep. Donald Payne endorsed after the Foreign Affairs Committee’s press release had been prepared but his name is on the letter, as you can see when you scroll down to the bottom at this link http://www.ijdh.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Meeks-Letter.pdf
US Congress is questioning Haiti’s election integrity??
