The latest project of Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka is a skincare line designed for people of color.
Working with Los Angeles-based A-Frame Brands, Osaka will lead Kinló, a line of skincare products that includes face lotion, body spray, lip balm and eye cream, according to HypeBae via Business of Fashion.
The 23-year-old athlete took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce the launch of Kinló.
The name of the project draws from Osaka’s Japanese and Haitian heritage, with “Kin” meaning “gold” in Japanese and “ló” meaning “gold” in Haitian Creole, HIGHSNOBIETY reported.
According to Osaka, Kinló was “developed to protect and rejuvenate melanated skin tones.” She admitted to Business of Fashion that she only started wearing sunscreen recently, calling skincare a “public health need.”
“I used to tell people that I didn’t need to wear sunscreen — but even if you have melanin, you need to take care of your skin, and I am passionate about that,” she said. Continue reading
