Three players from the Arcahaie F.C. team have decided to remain in Mexico City after their club traveled there to face Cruz Azul in the Champions League’s round of 16, according to local reports.
The three players were identified as Wilmane Exumé, Camy Marcelin and Jhonny Pierre-Paul. Exumé had deserted the team before the game Monday. The others competed, then refused to return to Haiti.
“I left the group today due to the situation of the country, the way I’m living,” Exumé told Jean Léonard “Izolan” Tout-Puissant, the club’s president in a voice message. “I don’t sleep well. I don’t eat well.”
