Former senator Youri Latortue said he has disbursed 12 500 USD to assist Bel Air residents left destitute after gangs attacked their neighborhood two weeks ago.

The donation amount is equivalent to 12 500 USD  and is being made through his business, Latortue Farms.

Between March 30 and April 1, criminal gangs controlled by Jimmy  “Barbecue” Cherizier tried to take over the Port-au-Prince neighborhood. Residents fought back and at least dozen were killed and scores more were injured. Many families were also left homeless after their homes were torched or ransacked.

“They cannot be doubly victims by leaving them alone after having suffered the terrors of the armed group of Barbecue,” said Latortue, who grew up in the neighborhood. Source
