At least 11 members of the U.S. House of Representatives signed a letter sent to Michele J. Sison, the U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, asking her to help secure the release of several people arrested in the Feb. 7 alleged coup attempt.
The group of 23 people was arrested in Petit Bois, a commune 31 miles from Port-au-Prince. They’re now at the Croix-des-Bouquets Civil Prison, where an outbreak occurred last week. So far, only former Supreme Court Judge Ivickel Dabrésil has been released.
Among those still being held are General Police Inspector Marie-Louise Gauthier, Dr. Marie-Antoinette Gauthier, agronomist Louis Buteau and at least two police officers. Source
Girl, 8, among those rescued during kidnapping ring bust
Rockfeller Vincent, Haiti’s Minister of Justice and Security, said on Twitter that officials have caught “several” kidnappers and their accomplices. Among those rescued is an eight-year-old girl kidnapped in Les Cayes Feb. 23.
Five suspects in all were arrested, Vincent said, adding that officials will soon share an update on their fight against kidnapping.
Meanwhile, Alix Clément, an engineer in charge of the Ministry of Health’s Technical Execution Unit, was kidnapped by two individuals who were driving a Toyota Prado on Tuesday along Avenue N in Port-au-Prince. Jean Marc Mondestin, the owner of a gas station, and three other residents were reported kidnapped in the capital this week.
