Barcelona have serious financial problems right now. It’s no longer a rumour, with club confirming it themselves, and this crisis poses many questions.
Are Barcelona bankrupt?
The club is not insolvent. They are in a very precarious situation but a long way from facing any kind of existential crisis.
Barcelona have a lot of assets, including in property, facilities and, of course, football players.
In the short term, selling one of Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele or Frenkie de Jong, for example, would go some way towards addressing their existing debt.
How is the situation being handled?
That’s the main task for the new president, and all the candidates have a plan, which mainly involves renegotiating payment plans to buy the club time while likely asking for further loans.
Could Barcelona become a SAD?
The club has the resources to avoid becoming a SAD – a public limited sports company, like every other club in LaLiga Santander except Real Madrid, Athletic Club and Osasuna.
