As a 7-year-old, fresh from Haiti with ribbons and barrettes in her hair, Marjorie Valbrun cried every day for weeks from the hair-pulling and other bullying she faced at her Spring Valley, New York elementary school. It got so bad one day that one of her older sisters wrote a note to the students in her meager English.
