Consul: Haitian diaspora may be included in referendum, elections

Diplomats are working behind the scenes to enable Haitians in the diaspora to participate in the upcoming constitutional referendum, said James Jacques, Haiti’s general consul to the Dominican Republic.

The diplomats also aim to enable the diaspora to participate in Haiti’s next elections, he said. 

The referendum for Haitians to vote on a new constitution is scheduled for Apr. 25. The elections will start on Sept. 19. Source

Port-de-Paix officials create carnival committee

Officials at Port-de-Paix town hall have named a 10-member organizing committee to plan and execute the national carnival.

The members of the committee will strategically plan the carnival, promote tourism in Port-de-Paix, meet with local and national media outlets among other tasks, according to the Jan. 10 announcement.

The national carnival is scheduled to take place Feb. 14 to 16 along 3 Rivieres Boulevard. Source

Police search for residents who shot back at them

The Haitian National Police said they have launched an investigation to identify individuals who exchanged gunshots with officers during a street protest.

In a public note on Monday, police said during a Sunday protest, demonstrators marched in restricted areas. 

Police said they will issue sanctions. Source
