
Gonaïves’s mayor scolded the Jovenel Moïse administration for not celebrating Independence Day in Gonaïves, Haiti’s City of Independence.
Moïse has been addressing the country from Port-au-Prince on Independence Day for the past two years because of political turmoil.
“[It’s] as if the city of Gonaïves is insignificant to them,” Donald Diogène said. “As if independence has no value in their eyes. The city of Gonaïves does not deserve this treatment. Central power authorities, you are all guilty.” Source
OAS leader sides with Moïse about his term ending in 2022

An Organization of American States (OAS) official posted on his Twitter account Tuesday that there will be a transition in the National Palace in 2022.
“We renew our support for the importance of an integral electoral process in 2021 which will conclude in a democratic and pacific transition of the power in the upcoming year,” said Luis Almagro, the secretary general of the OAS.
Almagro posted his tweet after a virtual meeting with Claude Joseph, the minister of foreign affairs. Joseph also tweeted Tuesday that Moïse will be replaced in 2022.
Opposition leaders sent a letter to the United Nations on Monday to ask them for help to remove Moïse from power in Feb. 2021. Source
Warrant issued for vice-delegate accused of rape

Jeremie’s court of first instance has issued a warrant against the vice-delegate of Corail, a town in the Grand’Anse Department, accusing the town official of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl at gunpoint.
Mesga Chaumette has been Corail’s vice-delegate since April 2017. He is suspected of committing the rape over the weekend.
Other officials have also been accused of sexually abusing girls and women in the region. Lizaire Ronsard, a police inspector, is accused of abusing a 16-year-old girl on Dec. 30 in Moron. Earlier, human rights experts said, at least 92 high schoolers were impregnated in Grand’Anse, some after getting raped. Source
