Real Madrid won against Borussia Monchengladbach to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League and the celebrations began, showing the turbulent times the club are experiencing.
From celebrating three Champions Leagues in a row to celebrating progressing from the group isn’t a good sign. At the end of the day, Real Madrid fulfilled their obligation by straightening out what had become a critical situation, created by their own laziness and what would have been an embarrassment for Zinedine Zidane.
Luka Modric (35), Lucas Vazquez (29), and Karim Benzema (32) were Real Madrid’s most outstanding players against Gladbach. The first two of those have their contracts expiring this season, along with the 35-year-old Sergio Ramos. A lot of people started to demand their renewals after the game. It’s likely that they deserve it, but their continuity isn’t the solution to Real Madrid’s current problems.
The real problem facing Los Blancos is a lack of goals, or a lack of talent in attack which can really hurt opponents. Real Madrid aren’t only lacking success in front of goal, but they’ve also struggled with signings.
