PSG vs Istanbul Basaksehir postponed following incident of alleged racism

PSG vs Istanbul Basaksehir will occur on Wednesday at 18:55 local time after the game was suspended following an alleged incident of racism.

The game will not be restarted. The starting XIs will have to be the same and the game will be picked up with a completely new set of referees.

The incident that led to the game’s suspension appears to have unfurled as follows.

On review of the footage, the referee, Ovidiu Haţegan, appears to ask who he should give the red card to from the bench, with 4th official Sebastian Colţescu responding: “ala negru,” which in Romanian can translate to “the black [guy],” provoking the incident that followed.

Pierre Webo, former Cameroonian attacker, was the assistant coach and individual sent off and was the target of the racist language on the part of the 4th official. Demba Ba led his teammates to refuse to continue play. Continue reading
