Lionel Messi’s emotional tribute to Diego Maradona in Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Osasuna is reportedly set to cost the club up to €3,000 (£2,698).
After scoring an excellent goal where he beat two defenders and fired the ball past goalkeeper Sergio Herrera, Messi removed his Barcelona shirt to reveal a Newell’s Old Boys one with Maradona’s iconic No. 10 on the back.
Maradona had a brief stint at Newell’s towards the end of his playing career, while Messi spent six years there as a youngster before joining Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy.
Messi has previously spoken about his memories of watching Maradona play for Newell’s, telling TyC Sports in 2013 that he was in the stadium for Maradona’s debut in 1993.
