Police shot and killed an armed bandit during an apparent burglary of GHESKIO, Haiti’s health research center, on Thursday.

The dead man was among several bandits who invaded the lab and forced employees out of the lab in Bicentenaire, Port-au-Prince. Police responded and exchanged fire with the bandits, killing one of them.

No GHESKIO employee was physically harmed.

Founded in 1982, GHESKIO was one of the world’s first research centers dedicated to combating HIV/AIDS. The lab is currently conducting research on the novel coronavirus in Haiti. Source
