Haiti is resuming its red alert status to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, government spokesperson Pradel Henriquez said in a statement Wednesday.

COVID-19 cases have been growing worldwide, including in Haiti. Haiti jumped from 8,860 confirmed cases on Oct. 10 to 9,137 on Nov. 11. While not as high compared to other countries,. But the government wants to prevent a catastrophe, Henriquez said.

Henriquez recommends that religious leaders, school officials and entrepreneurs enforce the COVID-19 precaution protocols. The government will also establish a committee to raise awareness of the risks of infection as people have become lax with following the COVID-19 protocols. Source
