Michael Kozak, the United States Acting Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, tweeted on Wednesday that Haiti has to reinstall its parliament sooner than later.
“Haiti’s Parliament must be restored as soon as possible for Haiti to return to a democratic path,” Kozak said. “Haitian democratic institutions should determine the proper legal mechanism for constitutional change, with input from civil society.”
A U.S. State Department spokesperson also said they’re expecting Haiti’s legislative elections to be held before January, according to the Miami Herald.
