Fiding Poker In Haïti

Located on the island of Hispaniola to the east of Cuba, Haiti has been tipped as one of the Caribbean’s next up and coming holiday destinations. Its beautiful white sandy beaches and views of the Azure sea, help to make this country a great tourist hotspot for those looking for a relaxing break. There are also a number of key attractions to be enjoyed by both visitors and locals, including its large cave system, wall falls and other natural sites.

For those looking for entertainment in Haiti, there are a number of casinos to visit with a great poker offering. Whether you are a poker pro and familiar with how the game works, or a gambling novice looking for a new experience, these top locations are definitely worth paying a visit:

NH Haiti El Rancho Hotel and Casino

NH Haïti El Rancho Hotel and casino is the biggest gambling outlet in the city of Port-au-Prince and the whole of Haiti.

The casino floor is located within the luxury resort. There are 100 different gaming machines, as well as tables for playing poker and a further 13 table games. Players can participate in a game of Texas Hold’em or play on one of the slot machines. Their slot game selection includes everything from traditional reel slots, to brand new video slots.

While not open 24/7 this casino can be accessed most of the day and till late into the evening. If you are in Port-au-Prince or the surrounding areas, this resort is certainly one to try for a game or two.

Four Aces Poker VIP Room

Another poker room located in Haiti’s capital city is the Four Aces Casino. Four Aces can be found at Sunrise Market in the Canape Vert area, it has both a main gaming floor with all the most popular games, as well as a VIP room for playing poker. The VIP room is open from 14:00 each day.

To keep things fresh, the venue runs regular slot tournaments that tend to attract some rather large buy-ins. Jackpot winners have previously walked away with 2,000HD, with runners up taking home a respectable 1,400HD or 1,000HD.

Live table games include roulette, blackjack and poker. One of the most popular poker variants is No Limit Texas Hold’em, which can be played as a standalone cash game or as part of a tournament. If you are considering getting involved in the tournament action, it’s worth reading up on a few poker terms so you don’t find yourself completely out of your depth.

The venue also holds regular cash raffles and giveaway prizes. These sometime include top electronic gadgets

Hotel Oloffson

There is another great casino at the Hotel Oloffson, which is located near other cultural highlights including Museum of Haitian Art and National Pantheon Museum. This hotel also offers a handy shuttle service, bringing customers between the casino, hotel, airport and shopping district.

Poker is a very competitive game…

Poker isn’t just played for fun in Haiti, there are Haitians who have developed their poker playing skills over many years in order to play professionally. One example is Haitian-born professional poker player Jean Gaspard, also known as Prince.

He played, and won, the 2016 World Series of Poker and collected $306,621 in prize money as well as the famous gold bracelet. In total, the player has made a total of three appearances at the final table and took home 19 WSOP cashes. His world series winnings have totalled an amazing $543,748 over the years.

Gaspard is also a successful basketball player and joined the Chicago Bulls in an NBA training camp.

Playing poker has also helped Haiti as a country in times of crisis. When Haiti was devastated by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake a decade ago, the country was in desperate need of funds to help rebuild their destroyed homes and businesses. During this time, a number of leading poker sites hosted charity poker tournaments. Part of each player’s tournament fee or buy-in was put towards the fund. This demonstrates that while poker is a fiercely competitive game, players can still come together and contribute towards an important cause, such as Haiti’s disaster relief.

Before visiting any new location to play poker, you should make yourself aware of any gambling laws and regulations in that country or state. In Haiti, gambling is fully legalised and is a relatively small but growing industry. At present, casinos are not regulated either on land or online. Also while playing online poker is allowed, there are currently no online poker operators in the country. However, many offshore sites do allow players from Haiti to play.

Finding poker in Haiti should be easy. While there aren’t too many casino establishments at present, there are a number of great, easily accessible venues in the main tourist hotspots in the country for you to play poker.
