Haiti’s former Minister of Finance Yves Bastien died on Saturday from cancer in Lyon, France.
Bastien served as finance minister under President Jocelerme Privert in 2016. He was in charge when Haiti received $23.4 million from CCRIF, a Caribbean disaster relief company, to assist those who were affected by Hurricane Matthew.
“More than a friend, Yves was a close collaborator, a rigorous man, a devoted patriot for whom I had great esteem,” Privert tweeted. “His departure was because of an illness that he courageously endured for two years. This made me very sad.” Source
