A group of protesting politicians flung rocks at police officers, who then responded by launching tear gas, near Champ-de-Mars park on Monday. No deaths or injuries were reported.

The politicians took to the streets after Fantom 509 members burned tires and set a government building on fire in a move to get former police officer Jean-Pascal Alexandre released from prison.

The head of pediatrics at the public hospital (HUEH) nearby had said throwing tear gas near the area puts babies at the hospital in danger. Continue reading
