In response to reports of armed bandits entering Bel Air, Haitian police on Wednesday went into the neighborhood and shot at the brigands until they left.
Haitian National Police (PNH) went into the Port-au-Prince neighborhood to protect residents from the bandits, a PNH spokesperson said. When the bandits saw the police, they shot at the officers’ armored vehicles. Police shot back and a brief firefight ensued until the bandits fled.
No police death nor injuries were reported, but some bandits were hurt, the spokesperson said.
In recent weeks, G9 Family and Allies gang members have killed at least 20 people, looted and set fire to numerous houses in Bel Air, according to published reports. Some residents took up arms earlier this week to expel the gang members from the suburb themselves. Continue reading
