
Frustrated by the surge in killings around the country in recent weeks, Haiti President Jovenel Moïse said he will order Army soldiers to battle the bandits if he has to.
At least 17 people have been killed in the past month, mostly by gang-related gun violence, according to media reports. Haiti’s police have been overwhelmed and unable to respond effectively because of lack of weapons.
“I will send the Army after them,” Moïse said Friday, while in Pont Sondé to announce a new police station to be built there. “The bandits have gone beyond their limits. [I’m] not going to hand over the country to bandits.” Continue reading
