Haiti’s Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe said the police have arrested three suspects in Monferrier Dorval’s murder. Jouthe said he could not yet reveal the identities of the suspects, but revealed that one suspect had Dorval’s phone.

Dorval, head of the Port-au-Prince bar at the time, was shot dead in his home Aug. 28, just hours after he said Haiti’s constitution needs to be updated. The killing set off scores of demonstrations in protest across the country and a declaration of three days of morning. Officials vowed to capture the assailants. 

Following, police officers who were ordered to guard Dorval’s property left. Vandals then ransacked the house, taking among many items the Saint Nicolas stick, which symbolizes the power of the head of the bar. Continue reading
