Ronald Koeman is reportedly beginning a clear out of famous faces in FC Barcelona’s squad as he hopes to revitalize an aging squad.
Arturo Vidal, Luis Suárez, Ivan Rakitić, and Samuel Umtiti will be forced out by the new manager, according to several media reports.
The first three are past 30 and some say, past their prime, while Umtiti has been struggling with recurring injuries after the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Suárez and Vidal started in Barcelona’s crushing defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich, while Rakitić was a frequent starter and substitute last season. Umtiti didn’t play much due to his injuries.
The manager apparently informed the four by phone that it’s time for them to look for a new club, as he does not count on them for next season.
While this clear out would be a revolution in the squad, several players over 30 seem to be surviving – at least for now. It seems Koeman is not ready to part with Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Gerard Piqué – at least not yet. Continue reading
