Real Madrid are yet to extend Sergio Ramos’ contract with the club, currently set to expire in the summer of 2021. That means that Ramos would be able to negotiate with other clubs in the winter, and while both Madrid and the Spanish defender know that an agreement will eventually be reached, the clock is ticking.
In this context and after Madrid’s defeat against Manchester City in the Champions League’s Round of 16, Los Blancos are willing to reconsider their position and give Ramos a new two-year deal instead of a regular one-year extension. Considering Ramos’ age, Madrid wanted to go year by year, but his performances this season and the leadership he’s shown game after game could ultimately force Real Madrid’s hand, according to AS.
In fact, Ramos has been Real’s most reliable defender this season and Varane’s performance against City —even if it was a single game— didn’t leave Madrid in a optimistic mood for a future without Ramos.
