It only seems like yesterday that a young, French winger was lighting up the Bundesliga and Champions League after moving from Ligue 1’s Stade Rennais for a respectable £13million. It was that one season filled with 10 goals and 21 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund that convinced FC Barcelona to splash the cash on Ousmane Dembele.
FC Barcelona paid an initial fee of £96.8million to Dortmund with future add ons of around £40million. It was a huge European transfer involving astronomical amounts of money in the transfer market in 2017. With the fees involved in his move, pressure was thought to quickly mount on Dembele. His return rate of 19 goals and 17 assists in 74 appearances is average, however his Barcelona career has been interrupted, time and time again… by injuries. Continue reading
