This spell without any footballing activity has allowed clubs to focus on how they will operate in the summer transfer window, Barcelona included.
Their hopes are high, with president Josep Maria Bartomeu dreaming of bringing Neymar or Lautaro Martinez to the Camp Nou, though it seems practically impossible given the costs unless there are players involved in any transfer.
Both players want to move to Barcelona but it’s not up to them, with a deal for Neymar being even more complicated than one for Lautaro.
In Neymar’s case, Barcelona have all but given up, despite speculation that he could leave for the Camp Nou if he doesn’t renew his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
Rumours have come out regarding a deal involving Antoine Griezmann. However that option is all but impossible as the Frenchman doesn’t want to leave and Barcelona don’t want to sell.
The more viable option is Lautaro as Inter are interested in a number of Barcelona players who could be involved in a swap deal.
It won’t be easy, given that certain players don’t want to join the Serie A side. One being Ivan Rakitic, who wants to see out his contract at Barcelona which ends in 2021.
Another player who is attracting interest from Italy is Arthur, who has been mentioned in the move for Lautaro, but also in a swap for Juventus’ Miralem Pjanic.
The Brazilian doesn’t want to leave Catalonia either and the club are not prepared to force him out.
A third player who isn’t interested in departing is Samuel Umtiti, who rejected the chance to leave last summer and would do so again, with another injury not helping the probabilities of him departing Barcelona.
