The Haitian government received, on Thursday, May 7, a first batch of medical and sanitary equipment.
The materials were ordered from China cost more than $ 18 million and arrived in the country via a cargo plane. The equipment will help Haiti deal with the coronavirus epidemic.
President Jovenel Moïse and his Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe and the Minister of Health Marie Greta Roy Clément were at Toussaint Louverture International Airport to see the arrival of the equipment.
The Minister of Public Health and Population, Marie Greta Roy Clément, explained that these 463 tons of equipment will arrive gradually via 5 flights over one to two weeks. She listed the equipment received during this first flight.
“We received 500 full beds, 100 respirators and their accessories, 100 trolleys, 250,000 visors to protect doctors, 200,000 surgical masks, 50,000 N95 masks for nursing staff, 137,760 protective glasses,” she said.
The minister assured that the government will continue to receive equipment, including other beds, monitors, personal protective equipment. “The population through the press will be informed as and when the material is delivered,” she said.
In addition to the order placed in China, Moïse said his government has ordered other equipment to fight the pandemic.
“Following the recommendations of the Multi-Sectoral Commission, we also ordered 2,500 oxygen cylinders and 9 oxygen generators. All of this equipment will save people’s lives, ”he said. Continue reading.
