Neymar’s move to Paris Saint-Germain never really took off as the French club expected.
His time in Paris has had its problems, and the latest hurdle is the enforced break brought by COVID-19.
‘Operation Neymar’ hasn’t been what it should have been and the Brazilian has played just 80 of the 155 PSG have had since arriving in 2017.
That total accounts for just 51 percent, averaging 26 games per season.
Considering he cost them 222 million euros to sign from Barcelona and that they pay him 37 million euros per season, the accounts aren’t reflecting a worthwhile investment.
Each appearance has set them back about 1,400,000 euros, meaning he’s been paid 111 million euros for his 80 games.
Injuries have stood in his way and he’s even had to miss big games against Real Madrid and Manchester United as well.
Before the 2018 World Cup, Neymar missed 100 days with PSG and played just 30 of their 56 games in 2017/18.
It was in the following campaign that he missed out against United, sat on the sidelines for 88 days and played just 28 of their 55 games.
A broken ankle in June 2019 caused another setback, leaving him out at the beginning of 2019/20.
He did return but suffered another problem in October.
In 2019/20 he’s made 22 appearances from a possible 44.
