Roma have joined the growing list of European clubs hoping to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze on a free transfer this summer.

Gotze looks set to leave Dortmund when his contract expires on June 30, with a host of teams expected to fight it out for the World Cup winner.

The midfielder has scored three goals in 13 appearances for Dortmund this season but the club are unlikely to offer him a new contract.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Gotze’s agent has already held discussions with Roma director Gianluca Petrachi.

Roma face competition from Premier League sides Everton and West Ham, who have also been credited with an interest in his services.

The 27-year-old is keen to remain in Europe and isn’t interested in a big-money move to Qatar or MLS, with the peak years of his career still ahead of him.
