CARICOM planning fact-finding mission in Haiti

Roosevelt Skerrit, Dominica Prime Minister,stated that CARICOM must step in and  intervene to assist Haiti in this complex situation reported The Washington Repoter.  “We recognize that Haiti is part of the Community and we have a responsibility and a duty and obligation to assist a Member State in unraveling its challenges and to work with [it] towards lasting solutions,” Skerrit stated. Public Prosecutor’s Office issues warrants

According to Radio Metropole, the Port-au-Prince prosecutor’s office has issued warrants against several businessmen, including Jean Marie Vorbe for conspiracy against the security of the state.

Haiti’s Police Chief Promises to Restore order

Recently, police officers have taken part in violent protests to demand the right to form a union, and according to Radio Metropole, police authorities are now working towards restoring order within the Police National d’Haiti.  Rameau Normil, Chief of Police, earlier this week called for calm ensuring that the police officers’ problems were his own. “The officers demands are legitimate and I told the authorities about these problems,” said Normil. Edwidge Danticat to be inducted in the American Academy of Arts and Letters

On Wednesday, the American Academy of Arts and Letters announced on Wednesday, Feb. 26, it 13 new inductees, which includes famed Haitian-American author Edwidge Danticat.  Danticate was recognized for her works including her memoir “Brother, I’m Dying” said she wished her parents were alive to see her — an immigrant and child of immigrants — voted into the academy according to WRAL.com.  The formal induction to be held on May 20, 2020. Olympiacos Stun Arsenal in Extra Time, Advance to Europa League Round of 16

A last-gasp goal by Olympiacos shocked Arsenal 2-1 on Thursday in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League last-32 stage, earning the Greek side a 2-2 aggregate victory on away goals after extra time at the Emirates Stadium.

The home crowd were stunned when Pape Abou Cisse gave the Greek side a 53rd-minute lead from Mathieu Valbuena’s corner.
