The ambassador of the United States in Haiti, Michèle J. Sison, officially launched Black History Month by hosting an event which included some senior state officials and diplomatic figures. “This is a period in which we honor the achievements of African Americans and the contributions they have made to the United States since the founding of our nation,” she said according to Le Nouvelliste.
Sison also spoke of the links that tie both the U.S. and Haiti and stated “Haiti did not only lead freedom movements, but also a revolution that has played a major role not only in the trajectory of the United States, but also in that of the entire world.”
