Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna die in helicopter crash

The retired N.B.A. star, 41, and his daughter Gianna were among nine people in a helicopter that crashed near Calabasas, Calif. A college baseball coach and his wife and daughter were also killed.

Bryant was among the passengers traveling onboard the helicopter. Nine people died in the crash, including the pilot, said Alex Villanueva, the Los Angeles County sheriff, during a news conference. Continue reading

Mike Pompeo calls for elections

During a Jan. 22 meeting, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo shared the United States’ position with Haitian Chancellor Edmond Bocchit in Jamaica.  Radio Metropole reported that Pompeo stated to the Miami Herald “An electoral calendar must be drawn up and a date set for the next elections. Saint-Anne Church stands tall once again

Classified as a historic monument by the National Heritage Preservation Institute, Saint-Anne Church is finally renovated.  The Haitian construction firm, Lescot, rebuilt the famed church which has a 1,500 seating capacity. According to Le Nouvelliste, the architectural style of the new sanctuary matches that of the old structure, which was destroyed by the 2010 earthquake. Continue reading

International Education Day

On Jan.24, International Education Day was commemorated for the second time.  The theme this year was “Learning for people, planet, prosperity and peace.” According to UNESCO, this year’s celebration centered on positioning education and the learning it enables as humanity’s greatest renewable resource. 

Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet, minister of education and professional training, in his speech spoke of the need to preserve education because there is no future for youth without education, stated Juno7. Continue reading
