President Moïse invites the signatories of the Marriot accord to the National Palace
On Dec. 12 Haiti President Jovenel Moise requested a meeting with Germeil Castel, a member of the Marriott Accord committee. Moise called for the meeting to discuss a solution to the crisis. The DCPJ attempts to arrest Dimitri Vorbe and the widow of President Préval
On Dec. 14, police officers from the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police went to the homes of Dimitri Vorbe, a board member for Société Générale d’Energie SA (SOGENER), and SOGENER shareholder Elizabeth Débrosse Préval. Vorbe, who’s been a vocal opponent of Moise and Préval, have warrants for their arrest over the State’s case against SOGENER. Continue reading

113 Haitians repatriated to Port-au-Prince
On Thursday, Dec. 12, the Bahamas repatriated 113 Haitians in an irregular migration situation to Haiti via a Bahamasair flight bound for Port-au-Prince. The group included the 39 undocumented Haitian migrants arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 11, on a small island off the south coast of Great Inagua. Continue reading
12 schools under construction in the Centre and Artibonite departments
As part of the Haitian-Japanese cooperation in support of school infrastructure in Haiti, 12 schools (90 classrooms in total) are being built in the Centre and Artibonite departments by the Japanese firm Tokura Corporation. This project is funded by the government of Japan to the tune of $20 million in response to a request from the Haitian government. The agreement signed was signed in July 2018. Continue reading

US group sues ex-Haitian mayor over human rights claims
A U.S. human rights organization filed a federal lawsuit Thursday in Massachusetts against the former mayor of a small town in Haiti on behalf of three Haitian citizens who allege he violently persecuted them.
The former mayor, Jean Morose Viliena, now lives in Malden, just north of Boston.
The Center for Justice & Accountability lawsuit includes claims of torture, killing and arson. It seeks unspecified monetary damages for the family of a Haitian man who was killed and two other men who were seriously wounded when Viliena allegedly led an armed group in attacks on his critics and perceived political opponents.
