Negotiations to form new government underway despite no communication from president
“The President of the Republic is in negotiations with certain sectors to form a new government,” announced Jouthe Joseph, Interim Minister of Economy and Finance during an interview on Radio Magik 9 on Wednesday, Oct. 23. He also said the resigning government will work on the 2019-2020 budget. “We hope that this budget will be voted before the end of the 50th legislature scheduled for the second Monday of January 2020,” he said, stressing that the head of state will convene in extraordinary session the deputies to vote this finance law. Haiti experiences record low growth rate
Haiti’s GDP growth rate is the lowest it’s been in almost a decade. The country experienced 0.1 percent growth in 2019, according to an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report published earlier this week in Washington. The last time the Haitian economy posted this growth rate was in 2010, the year of the earthquake. The future of Haiti, according to IMF forecasts, is not the brightest. Stuart Savage, Canada’s new ambassador to Haiti
President Jovenel Moïse received the credentials of Stuart Savage, the new Canadian Ambassador to Haiti. The ceremony took place at the National Palace on Wednesday, October 23rd. Nahomme Dorvil, the President’s Chief of Staff, Jouthe Joseph, Chancellor in the absence of Bocchit Edmond, and diplomats from the Canadian Embassy were in attendance. Stuart Savage replaces André Frenette whose mission ended in July. The sanitation of Port-au-Prince on the agenda of the Minister of the Interior
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet acting Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities accompanied by his Director of Cabinet, Director General Amos Zéphirin as well as the Director of the Territorial Collectivities, met with Ralph Youri Chevry, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince who was accompanied by his Director General.
This working meeting focused on cleaning up the metropolitan area and strengthening of the capacities of the Town Hall, various actions are planned. To respond to a request from Mayor Chevry, the State through the Ministry, will deliver, without delay, three additional trucks, which will be added to the fleet of compressors, tipper trucks and loaders already available to this municipality.
